Keshab Mahanta
AGP | Kaliabor | ਉਡੀਕ
Senior AGP leader and minister in the BJP-led Assam government, Keshab Mahanta is seeking re-election from the Kaliabor constituency in the 2026 Assembly polls, a seat he has held continuously since 2006.
Mahanta, who serves as the working president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), is a key figure within the NDA alliance in Assam. In the Himanta Biswa Sarma cabinet, he currently handles portfolios, including revenue, science and technology, and information technology, reflecting his administrative experience across multiple sectors.
His political career spans both state and national levels. Mahanta was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kaliabor in 1996 as an AGP candidate and served as MP until 1998. He later returned to state politics, winning the Kaliabor Assembly seat in 2006 and retaining it in successive elections since then.
In previous governments, including the Sarbananda Sonowal-led administration (2016-2021), he held key departments such as water resources, along with science and technology and IT, before continuing in important roles under the current dispensation.
As he contests again from Kaliabor, Mahanta remains one of the senior-most faces of the AGP, combining organisational influence within the party with a long-standing electoral connect in central Assam.
