Tariq Hameed Karra

Within hours of the announcement of the poll schedule, the Congress announced Tariq Hameed Karra’s name as the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief. He joined the Congress in 2017, after leaving the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Karra was a founding member of the PDP. In 2014, Karra defeated NC president Farooq Abdullah from Srinagar. He fell out with the PDP over the alliance with the BJP and induction of new faces in the cabinet. Central Shalteng will see a triangular fight between Karra, former NC MLA Irfan Ahmad Shah and ex-PDP legislator Noor Mohammad Sheikh, both fighting as independents.
