Baghmara comprises of the following areas of Dhanbad district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Baghmara police station and Karras police station (excluding Gram Panchayats Dharkiro, Dalrdih, Rajganj, Bagdaha, Dhawachita, Nagri Kalan and Ramkanalichardur) in Baghmara sub-division; and Jogta police station in Dhanbad Sadar sub­division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 197.2 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°46'22.1"N 86°15'22.7"E.

A total of six Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Baghmara constituency, which are: Dumri, Tundi, Dhanbad, Chandankyari, Bokaro, Bermo. This constituency shares an inter-state border with .

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the estimated voter turnout in this Jharkhand constituency was 64.01%. In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Dulu Mahato of BJP won in this constituency beating Jaleshwar Mahato of INC by a margin of 824 votes which was 00.46% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Dulu Mahato of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Jaleshwar Mahato of JDU by a margin of 29,623 votes which was 17.67% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Dulu Mahato of JVM won this seat defeating Jaleshwar Mahato of JDU by a margin of 19,960 votes which was 14.41% of the total votes polled for the seat.
