There were a total of 3,17,474 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Assembly election in Gandey Assembly constituency, of which 1,64,288 were male, 1,53,184 female and 2 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,69,330 registered voters, of which 1,41,007 were male, 1,28,317 female and 6 from the third gender. Gandey comprises of the following areas of Giridih district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Gandey and Bengabad police stations and Gram Panchayats Leda, Semaria, Badgunda, Palmo, Sathibad, Senadoni, Dhanaidih, Guro, Jitpur, Telodih, Ranidih and Karharbari in Giridih Mufassil police station in Giridih Sadar sub­division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 950.49 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 24°12'33.1"N 86°23'27.6"E.

A total of seven Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Gandey constituency, which are: Jamua, Bagodar, Dumri, Giridih, Tundi, Jamtara, Madhupur. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Jamui district of Bihar.

Voter turnout

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the estimated voter turnout in this Jharkhand constituency was 73.36%. In 2019, this seat registered a turnout of 69.56%, while it was 70.69% in 2014 and 65.67% in 2009. The estimated turnout in 2024 was -3.80% compared to the 2019 turnout.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Dr Sarfraz Ahmad of JMM won in this constituency beating Jai Prakash Verma of BJP by a margin of 8,855 votes which was 04.73% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Jai Prakash Verma of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Salakhan Soren of JMM by a margin of 10,279 votes which was 6.08% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Sarfraz Ahmad of INC won this seat defeating Salkhan Soren of JMM by a margin of 8,455 votes which was 6.45% of the total votes polled for the seat.
