In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 2,76,086 which included 1,59,632 male and 1,16,454 female voters.

Assembly constituency no.41. Jharia comprises of the following areas of Dhanbad district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Jharia and Jorapokhar police stations in Dhanbad Sadar sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 97 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°41'30.5"N 86°24'50.8"E.

A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Jharia constituency, which are: Dhanbad, Sindri, Chandankyari. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

Voter turnout

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the estimated voter turnout in this Jharkhand constituency was 55.25%. In 2019, this seat registered a turnout of 52.32%, while it was 57.74% in 2014 and 43.92% in 2009. The estimated turnout in 2024 was -2.93% compared to the 2019 turnout.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Purnima Niraj Singh of INC won in this constituency beating Ragini Singh of BJP by a margin of 12,054 votes which was 07.60% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Sanjeev Singh of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Niraj Singh of INC by a margin of 33,692 votes which was 21.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Kunti Devi of BJP won this seat defeating Suresh Singh of INC by a margin of 3,016 votes which was 2.49% of the total votes polled for the seat.
