Assembly constituency no.70. Simdega comprises of the following areas of Simdega district in the South Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Simdega and Kurdeg police stations in Simdega sub-division; and Palkot police station in Gumla sub­division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1833.93 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 22°38'16.4"N 84°19'25.7"E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Simdega constituency, which are: Gumla, Bishunpur, Sisai, Kolebira. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, Sundargarh district of Odisha.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Bhushan Bara of INC won in this constituency beating Shradhanand Besra of BJP by a margin of 285 votes which was 00.19% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Vimla Pradhan of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Menon Ekka of JKP by a margin of 3,194 votes which was 2.35% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Vimla Pradhan of BJP won this seat defeating Neil Tirkey of INC by a margin of 1,113 votes which was 0.96% of the total votes polled for the seat.
